A SCHOOLGIRL had her head shaved for St Michael’s Hospice on Friday (March 28) as part of the charity’s annual Yellow Day celebrations.

Libby Mitchell, 11, who attends St Leonards School, took part in the fundraiser at the school’s Easter fair in front of family and friends. She said: “I wanted to do something to benefit my community. The hospice does such an amazing job for people who need it most. My inspiration is Jessie J - if she can do it for the whole world to see then I can do it in front of a school.”

Amanda Hildreth, hospice community fundraiser, said: “Libby was a fantastic sport, and it was mum Amanda who was entrusted with the task of shaving her daughter’s hair off. Mum was very nervous but she did a great job while the school and Libby’s family and friends cheered them on.

“Libby was prepared to sacrifice her own hair to raise funds for others and I must say she looks fantastic with her new hair-do. Libby has already raised an amazing £1,400.”
