Knife threat to teenagers

Youngsters were "shaken up and scared" by an ordeal on Sunday night when they were threatened with a knife.

The group of six teenage boys and girls, aged around 16 years, were near the Colonnade at 9pm when they were menaced by a young male.

He was wearing a white hoody and grey tracksuit bottoms and had with him another youth wearing black hoody, and red and black tracksuit.

The victims recognised him however and were able to report the incident and provide details to Sussex Police - the youth was arrested this week and has been interviewed and bailed until mid-October pending further inquires.

Sussex Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw what happened to contact Sargeant Tricia Reeve-Fowkes on 0845 60 70 999.

Sgt Reeve-Fowkes said: "This was a serious incident which could have potentially resulted in injury. Thankfully no one was hurt but the incident was frightening for the group as it was unprovoked. Knife crime is a serious matter for which the maximum penalty for carrying a knife is four years in prison and a fine of 5000 and after investigation of this matter the facts will be sent to the Crown Prosecution Service for a decision on prosecution."
