The Golden Jubilee weekend was a double celebration for Peacehaven. Festivities not only honoured the Queen but also the 20th anniversary of Peacehaven's twinning with Isernhagen, Germany, and Epinay-Sous-Senart, France.

Groups from both European towns were welcomed on Friday and treated to the best of British hospitality by their Peacehaven hosts.

Jubilee celebrations began on Monday with the lighting of the Meridian Beacon by the Mayor, Cllr Pauline Howard, in the presence of the French and German twin town Mayors, Christine Schelle-Maury and Apad Bogya.

Accompanied by the Crowborough Marching Band, the revellers then made their way to the Meridian Centre. Peacehaven Town Council devised its own spin on the street party by inviting townsfolk to bring their own food to the centre where it provided the entertainment.

Council leisure and amenity manager Steve Keogh said a crowd of up to 400 soon got into the swing of the jubilee festivities.
