Police want to trace a man who pepper-sprayed a woman jogger in Alexandra Park at around 7pm on Friday (July 24).

The woman, in her 20s and from Ashford, Kent, was running alone when a white man in his late 20s, 6ft 2ins tall, and possibly with fair hair emerged from trees.

He was wearing a plain black hoody with the hood up and large, dark sunglasses and, as the jogger approached, he directed a pepper spray at her.

She was able to continue running and meanwhile the man walked off into the trees.

PC Michaela Haddock, of Hastings Police, said: “Although a very unusual incident, the fact that this woman was attacked in this unprovoked way while out alone jogging is concerning.

“This area is well frequented by runners, dog walkers and families. We’d ask them to be aware of this incident and if they saw what happened or have other information to let us know.”

Details can be emailed to or phoned through to 101, quoting serial 1681 of 24/7.

Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

In an emergency, dial 999 and ask for police.
