Jessica’s gift icing on the cake at Arun Volunteer Centre

CELEBRATION cake and certificates were handed out as Arun Volunteer Centre thanked its army of community helpers.

The centre marked Volunteers’ Week with a Thank You Day at the United Church hall in High Street, Littlehampton.

And with the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations still fresh in people’s minds, a special cake was made for the day by one of the centre’s volunteers, Jessica Reader, with Union Flag icing in red, white and blue and a golden crown to top it off.

Town mayor Emma Neno visited the event, cutting the cake and presenting certificates to two volunteers with Littlehampton Shopmobility, Linzi Stancomb and Mark Shoult. She also thanked the various voluntary groups taking part by setting up stalls, and told Jessica that her cake was the best she had seen during the jubilee celebrations.

Centre co-ordinator Derek Moore said the day was held to publicly thank all volunteers for their selfless efforts in improving life in their local community, and to highlight the work of voluntary groups. All volunteers who attended were issued with a thank-you certificate.

He added: “Thanks to the efforts of all staff members, exhibiting groups and visitors, the day was a great success and resulted in the recruitment of a number of new volunteers.”
