Jerwood Gallery is the museum partner for the 2016 London Art Fair, the UK’s premier fair for Modern British and contemporary art.

The exhibition Coast @ London Art Fair, from January 20 - 24, will illustrate the ways in which the British coastline, as a physical and spiritual place, coupled with its extraordinary light, have shaped and influenced selected artists in the Jerwood Collection, which is on permanent display at Jerwood Gallery.

Important works drawn from the collection by artists including Ben Nicholson, John Piper, John Tunnard and Christopher Wood will feature in a special exhibition within the British Pavilion.

John Bratby was a prolific painter and writer on the British art scene during the Fifties and Sixties. Born in 1928, he died in his adopted home town of Hastings just a day after his 64thbirthday.

Rather than create a traditional retrospective of his oeuvre – it is believed Bratby painted over 1,500 works – Jerwood Gallery (with help from John’s widow Patti) launched a rare opportunity for the UK public to produce the content of a major gallery exhibition

It runs from January 30 - April 17 next year.
