The Rye International Jazz and Blues Festival has pulled off a pre-festival concert with the internationally acclaimed voice of Jazz, Gregory Porter.
Porter and his outstanding musicians perform at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Wednesday 24th June and tickets are certain to be in high demand. Porter has taken the jazz world by storm over the last three years with numerous appearances on national television and radio. He continues to perform to sell out audiences across Europe and has achieved international recognition and acclaim with his Grammy winning multi-platinum selling album Liquid Spirit.
This one-off concert is sponsored by Future Climate and as the lucky crowds who’ve seen him perform the world over can vouchsafe: you can drink deep of Porter and the best kind of intoxication will follow.
The charismatic Californian has brought excitement, passion and honesty into the musical genres he has loved from boyhood, ever since Nat “King” Cole entered his heart.
In Gregory’s own words “I’m married to music and whether people keep on buying my records or keep on coming to the shows or not, I’m still going to sing. Porter insists: “I swear to God I am cool!”.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Gregory’s album Liquid Spirit is shot through with gospel, blues and R&B influences… ‘the title track pair’s soulful horns with a deep, enveloping bassline that frames the California native’s supple tenor. Gregory Porter is a powerful baritone who writes his own songs… from a more ’70s or early ’80s-oriented place in the African-American jazz tradition, strong and sometimes experimental yet serenely unacademic, and mightily good.” - The New York Times
We are thrilled to be presenting Gregory at such a stunning venue said Ian Bowden the Rye jazz and blues festival director.
