Jamie's Wish Trust celebrates 10th family fun day

The event, organised by Jamie’s Wish Trust, raised £4,048.73 last Saturday.

Tracey Terry said: “We cannot believe how it has grown over the years and the couple of hundred visitors we usually have, as in past years, turned into more then double that this year.

“The Littlehampton Gazette has followed our story over the past years and we have had so much feedback from people, like ‘brilliant day’ and ‘amazing day’.”

There were fairground rides, go karts, a bouncy castle, Punch and Judy show and live music at Linden Park Green.

The tug-of-war drew a large crowd to see Littlehampton mayor Ian Buckland’s team versus the Steve Tester team, which had beaten the Littlehampton rugby team.

The baby competition, with 33 competitors, was judged by Rustington’s ApplePips Day Nursery.

Tracey added: “We had the biggest tombola, with 1,100 prizes, which brought in £410 alone.”

Children were able to meet Olaf and Elsa from Frozen, stormtroopers from Star Wars, Peppa Pig and brother George and then watch them in a mascot race.

Jamie’s Wish was founded after Tracey’s son, Jamie, died in June 2007. He was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour in December 2003 and he bravely fought it for three and a half years, with a positive and inspirational attitude.

Jamie’s Wish Trust is based in Littlehampton but the charity grants the wishes of young people from across the UK, helping those aged up to 25 who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

It also helps their families by providing a grant in order to ease the financial situation at an often stressful time.

Jamie’s Wish operates from the support of Jamie’s family and a group of dedicated volunteers to bring a little joy to these children and their families as they face a challenging time.

The first family fun day in 2007 raised £4,000, which was donated to various UK charities.

The same year, Jamie met the Portsmouth FC players, something for which he had always wished.

The second fun day in 2008 raised £5,500, which was donated to two charities We Can Make Dreams Come True and The Joshua Foundation.

It was at this point that Jamie’s family realised they could register as a charity and start to help children directly by granting them wishes, so Jamie’s Wish Trust was born. Charity status was granted in February 2009.
