It's cheers to another success for Yapton beer festival

Some 1,000 beer drinkers made Yapton's latest beer festival another success.

The large turnout ensured the organisers of the village's 19th Beerex were drunk dry at the end of its three days at Yapton Village Hall.

They sank more than 5,000 pints of beers, ciders and perrys last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The ciders and perrys proved particularly popular. The perrys disappeared on the first evening. The ciders were finished on Saturday night.

Beerex organiser Phil Wildsmith, the chairman of the western Sussex branch of Camra, said: "There is quite an upsurge nationally in proper ciders and perrys and we reflected that.

"The festival was another success overall. On the Saturday night, we had some Pompey fans who had been to Wembley and came back to celebrate with us, which showed real loyalty.

"We also had some people in their early 20s there, which was good to see. We had nice comments on the beers we had and the quality of them. There does seem to be a growing enthusiasm for real ales.

"I think it goes with the interest in food '“ such as where it's grown, what's in it and where it's made."
