Investment needed for town to compete

Burgess Hill needs new investment to ensure it can compete commercially with other towns in the region, otherwise the people of Burgess Hill and surrounding villages will go elsewhere, Dick Lankaster, head of planning implementation at Mid Sussex District Council told residents last week.

Fifty residents attended a special meeting and som e raised concerns about the effect proposals might have on homes in the Station Road and Queens Crescent area as part of plans to enhance the railway station and surrounding area,

Following the meeting, Mr Lankester said: "They are not planning applications and any areas identified for redevelopment on the plan will only be developed with input from residents. I would like to stress that it does not necessarily mean that all buildings in these areas will be affected- they could be refurbished or simply be left as they are, depending on specific proposals which would be brought forward for the council's consideration.
