THE UK’s top female skateboarder aimed to encourage young women to take up the sport when she visited the Boyley Skate Park.

Lucy Adams was in town on Tuesday evening (October 16) to raise the profile of Us Girls, a campaign dedicated to getting more young women active, and give tuition to local skaters.

Us Girls is coordinated by Hastings Borough Council’s StreetGames team, and Lucy has signed up to become an Us Girls champion.

She said: “I think the event was great and it definitely helped to inspire some of the girls that attended.

“Thank you all for organising and inviting me over, it’s a great project running in Hastings – I’m really impressed!”

Councillor Emily Westley, lead member for leisure, said: “It was encouraging to see so many young people at the skate park, in particular, all the young girls that came along to have some hands-on tuition with Lucy.

“Us Girls aims to encourage more young women to get active, enjoy sport and meet new friends, with Lucy’s help this week we hope that this will be the start of skateboarding for girls here in Hastings.

“The Boyley Skate Park is a fantastic resource for local people. The council is currently working with local partners and skate park users to raise funds for the proposed Phase 2 extension.”
