We lead on the launch of the Conquest25 MRI Scanner Appeal, which hopes to raise £1 million to fund a state-of-the-art MRI scanner for the Conquest Hospital. The campaign has been organised by Friends of the Conquest to mark the hospital’s 25th anniversary. We dedicate two pages inside the newspaper to this fantastic community appeal.

The community has also been fundraising for other local causes. A £1,000 cash boost was given to a campaign to fund a life-changing new pioneering operation for young Leo Leyland to help him walk again, and hundreds turned out for a charity walk in aid of You Raise Me Up, in memory of schoolboy Harley Simpson, who died after road collision last year.

In a follow-up to a story we ran a couple of weeks ago, a young mother with ‘incurable’ cancer has flown more than 1,800 miles to Turkey to undergo life-saving treatment, thanks in part to a fundraising appeal set up by her friends.

We also tell the heartbreaking story of friends and family of a three-year-old girl who died last month completing the Hastings Half Marathon in her memory.

Other news includes police seizing a ‘substantial haul’ of illegal drugs estimated to be worth at least £20,000, a Welsh rugby ace talking to students about his past battles with dyslexia and how he overcame them, and a pub that has had its licence to trade revoked.

In health news, we start running a series looking at the fantastic work of St Michael’s Hospice as it marks its 30th anniversary, and in politics, we speak to Trevor Webb, leader of the Labour group, as part of a run-down of all the political parties ahead of the county council elections in May.

This week’s paper includes two pages of photographs from the popular yarn bombing exhibition on Hastings Pier, and two pages of photographs from Hastings Furniture Service’s DIY workshops. We also run a page of pictures from Red Nose Day events across the area.

Nine pages of sport leads on Hastings and Bexhill Rugby Club’s triumph as league champions and an 11-page What’s On guide takes a look at the top ten things to do this weekend.

This week’s nostalgia offering explores another section of Queens Road, from Stonefield Place to Nelson Road.

On top of all that, we have the usual letters pages, court listings, puzzles and essential information.
