CHURCH: The service at 10.30 am on Sunday will be Family Communion with a Baptism. This is the 7th Sunday of Trinity.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: The Summer Show is on Saturday 1st August, and is incorporated in the Summer Trust Fete. Schedules are still available. To enter the show, write your name and address on a piece of paper and the class numbers which you wish to enter. The cost is 20 pence per class. Deliver your entry to 22, High Fords by 7 pm on Wednesday 29th July. Staging is between 8 am and 10 am on the morning of the Show in the Memorial Hall. During the afternoon there will be entertainment by the Wealden Brass Band. As it is also Fete Day, there will be lots of stalls and attractions. The Horticultural Society will be running the Tombola Stall, and any donations would be very much appreciated.

LOTTERY DRAW: The New Pavilion Lottery Draw for June was made on Friday 10th July at Icklesham Casuals F. C. annual Golf Tournament. It was drawn by their club President George Potter. The winners were : 1st £50 Frances Read; 2nd £25 Steve Beale; 3rd £15 Pat Kent; 4th £10 Janet Thompson; and 5th £5 Yvonne Bellhouse. Apologies for the draw being a bit late this month, but the July draw will take place at the Fete and Flower Show on 1st August. Thanks to everyone for their continued support. The lottery is open to all and new members are very welcome to join. It costs £12 per year (£1 per month). Please spread the word.

BOWLS CLUB: The Icklesham Bowls Club is running teas at the Fete and Flower Show on Saturday 1st August. Any offers of help during the afternoon, or donations of cakes, filled rolls etc. would be very much appreciated.

ICKLESHAM FETE: As the other groups have mentioned, there are only three weeks to go before the annual Fete and Flower Show. This will be on the recreation ground on Saturday 1st August from 1 pm. Sandra Stunt writes, “We would still like offers of help, both with setting up and throughout the afternoon. If the weather is kind to us, it is usually a great day for the village to come together. If you know anyone who has an old or interesting vehicle which they would like to exhibit on the day, please put them in touch. There will be something for all the family to enjoy. Raffle tickets are on sale in Icklesham Stores and all the village groups have them too. There are three cash prizes to be won as well as other prizes, including two free tickets to the Kino Cinema which have kindly been donated.”

WEATHER: What we need for the Fete is some of that glorious sunshine which we have experienced over the last weeks. Definitely NOT what we have this morning as I write. It is damp and drizzly. No doubt beneficial for the gardens which were wilting a bit. Perhaps all the flowers will perk up ready for the beginning of August.

QUEEN’S HEAD: The live music for 19th July will be played by Creole Jazz, whose genre is described as ‘brew up ‘. Will someone explain that to me please.

ROBIN HOOD INN: There will be a High Summer Vintage Garden Afternoon Tea Party at the Robin hood on Sunday 26th July from 5.30 pm until late. Music will be from Ricochet and Mr. Steve Sinatra. This is a Dress Coded event. Gentlemen are required to wear a shirt and tie - no jeans, T-shirts or trainers. Ladies are asked to dress to impress having in mind Ascot Ladies’ day. There will be a competition for the best dressed gentleman, the best hat and the best dressed couple. This is a booking only event, and the Pub will be closed. The cost is £14.95 per person with £5 deposit on booking.

BRTISH HEART FOUNDATION: The event last Friday at the Village Stores raised a very creditable £115. It was a lovely day and very warm thanks are offered to everyone who supported it, and especially Karen and Dexter for offering the venue.

SCHOOL NEWS: Congratulations to the Yr 6 children for 100% level 4 and above achievement for the second year running. Many children also achieved level 5 and 5 children achieved level 6 in reading, writing or maths. This is a staggering result for their age. The year 2 children have also achieved 100% at level 2 and above in their SATS and the reception children have achieved 93.4%, well above the National Average of 60%. These results are a fantastic reward for the hard work and dedication of the entire staff team, the wonderful children being the best they can be, and the brilliant support from parents and families. Magpies Class had a thoroughly enjoyable visit to the Rare Breeds Centre and impressed everyone by their polite and caring behaviour. Connor and Eve won the ‘Pig Race’. This afternoon, 17th, there is an Open Afternoon for parents and families. Refreshments will be available in the French Cafe in the hall. Do we have to order in French, I wonder. Come along from 1.30 pm. The Gold Awards will be presented at the final Excellence Assembly on Tuesday 20th July. Mr. Singer will be presenting the Sports Awards. Mr. Singer has been with the school for two years and this year has been outstanding for sport. In September Mr. Ray will take over from Mr. Singer and will be asking the children which sports they would like in their after school clubs. The Leavers’ Service will be in Icklesham Church on Wednesday 22nd at 9.30 am until 11 am. At this service the presentation of the prestigious ‘I can and I will’ Peggy Austen Cup and Mrs. Higgs’ Aspire, Believe and Care award will be made. Class awards this week go to Rosie, Lily, all the Magpies, Jasmine, and Jake.

ORGAN CONCERT: The next concert at All Saints Church, Hastings will be played by Daniel Cook from Westminster Abbey.
