HUNDREDS of people of more than 50 nationalities turned out to celebrate Refugee Week at Concordia Hall.
The event last Wednesday (June 20), in Church Road, St Leonards, organised by Hastings Intercultural Organisation in partnership with the Link Project, was the sixth consecutive year that the people of Hastings and St Leonards marked the national Refugee Week.
Alex Ntung, community cohesion officer at Hastings Borough Council, said: “There were between 200 and 400 people at Concordia Hall. For such a small venue, we were not expecting as many people.
“It was a really, really good event, bringing people from different backgrounds together, and challenging misconceptions about people that come from different places.”
The event featured performances from singers, musicians, and dancers, including children from St Mary Star-of-the-Sea School, along with activities for children, food, and information stands by local groups.
