Homeware giant Dunelm Mill to open in Rustington

Dunelm Mill has taken over the 31,700 sq ft store previously used temporarily by Sainsbury’s, and before that Focus, in Rustington Retail Park, in New Road, just months after the supermarket giant vacated the building in October.

While an official opening date has not been confirmed by the company, Dunelm Mill says it plans to open in early March, creating 80 permanent and temporary jobs.

Gillian Brown, leader of Arun District Council, said it was an indication business and investor confidence was growing, both locally and nationally.

She also said in recent months the council had noticed an increase in the number of enquiries from businesses looking to move to Arun or expand within it.

Mrs Brown added: “I am delighted that Dunelm Mill has shown such confidence by investing in the Arun area.

“The opening of these new premises in Rustington will bring new employment opportunities for local residents.

“In recent months we have noticed an increase in enquiries from businesses looking to move to Arun or to expand within it, which is very encouraging news for everyone.

“It is a strong indication that businesses and investor confidence in the local and national economy is growing and that there is renewed potential for economic growth.”

Dunelm Mill currently has several planning applications submitted with Arun District Council so that it can make amendments to the building before it begins trading.

These include building a new mezzanine floor at the store and making other internal alterations.

The store Dunelm is moving to, Unit A, was formerly occupied by Focus before being taken over temporarily by Sainsbury’s in February, last year, while its new store was being built in the same retail park.

Sainsbury’s moved into its new store in October last year.
