Historian in search for war hero's family from Bognor

A Bognor Regis family is being sought by an aviation historian who has tracked down more information about a war hero.

Details about the relatives of Sergeant Freddy Towse are missing from the archive amassed by John Aitken from his research into the crash which killed the second world war air crew member.

Mr Aitken has extensively investigated the incident '“ which happened on May 10, 1944 '“ and wants to pass on this information to Sgt Towse's family.

"About three years ago, I met some of the family at a commemoration in France.

"But the French have no addresses for the family and all anyone can recall is that they came from Bognor," he said.

"Since meeting them, I have extensively researched the other crew members and located all the other relatives.

"I wish to send the Towse family the results of this research and also an article I have written about the crash.

"I have photos of the other crew members, but the Towse family have faded from the scene since I met them in France.

"Freddy Towse was much missed by his family and the documents and stories will, I am sure, bring closure."

Mr Aitken lives in the Cashmere suburb of Christchurch in New Zealand. His email address is [email protected]
