COWBEECH BONFIRE AND FIREWORKS: This evening, Friday. No Guy Fawkes commemoration is complete without a bonfire and the event at Cowbeech will be no exception as an enormous fire is being built and will be ignited with a bang at about 7pm. The fireworks display at 8pm forms the climax of the evening but the fun starts at 6pm when people are invited to assemble in the car park of the Merrie Harriers for a free Fancy Dress and Pumpkin Carving competition. Judging for this will be from 6.30pm with cash prizes for the winners and small rewards for every entrant. Also at 6.30pm the gates to the firework field will be opened and spectators will find that there is a licensed bar in the field together with a barbecue and a hog roast. The hog, burgers and sausages are sourced locally and the buns and baps used are locally baked. The fireworks display has been choreographed to Music from the Movies and spectators should enjoy the combination of three-dimensional fireworks synchronised with music from a powerful array of amplifiers. Fireworks displays are notoriously expensive to stage on the scale of the Cowbeech event, although costs have increased since last year the entrance prices have been left unchanged. The price of entry will be Â£5 for adults and those of secondary school age, Â£1 for any person still attending primary school and all others not yet of school age will be admitted for free. There is no facility for payment by card so please remember to bring a sufficient amount of cash.

SEAFOOD NIGHT: This evening, Friday, from 7pm to 9pm in Olives Café at Lime Cross Nursery. Booking is essential on 01323 833229 or email [email protected].

PUMPKIN COMPETITION: At the Woolpack 11am tomorrow, Saturday. This is a charity fundraiser and will include barbecue and fun. Bring your own pumpkin. Entry is £2. There are prizes for the best and most original.

END OF SEASON: Tomorrow, Saturday, Herstmonceux Castle has its end of season weekend from 10am to 4pm when admission to the gardens, grounds and tea rooms is only £3. There are castle tours for £2.50 and £1 children as well as horse and carriage ride for £3 and £1 child.

SPOOKTACULAR: Tomorrow, Saturday, the Observatory Open Evening is from 6.30pm to 11pm at Herstmonceux Science Centre. For more information visit their website at www.the-observatory.org/open.evenings.

ANTIQUES AND COLLECTORS FAIR: This monthly event is at The Woolpack on Sunday from 9am to 3pm. Entry is 50p and there are refreshments and parking. Enquiries for table hire to 01323 833270 and cost £15.

WALKING GROUP: Karen and Andy (833040) will be setting off on a 4.5 mile Iden to Icklesham walk on Sunday and will be meeting at Herstmonceux car park at 10am. If you want to join them please ring for the details.

HAIRSPRAY: The local amateur dramatic group HATS, is putting on its latest production from November 8 to 12 at 7.30pm at Herstmonceux Village Hall with a matinee performance on the Saturday at 2.30pm. Friday November 18, 7.30 to 9pm Free Church Youth Club Herstmonceux Open evening, come along all welcome. No need to book. Thursday November 24, 7pm to 9pm at Herstmonceux Village Hall, First Aid and defibrillator demonstration. Limited spaces available.
