Heroic teens 'saved friends life'

A schoolboy who fell on to the live rails at a station had a lucky escape thanks to the heroic actions of two teenage brothers.

The Observer reported last week that a 15-year-old was hospitalised with serious burns after hitting the 750-volt line at Warrior Square station.

But more details emerged this week with the revelation that the teenager owes his life to his friends who jumped on to the tracks to save him.

Connor Easton, 15, of Harold Road, leapt onto the line to help the boy, who has asked not to be named. With his 14-year-old brother JJ and a third friend, they got the boy into the recovery position on the platform and flagged down a passing ambulance.

Filsham Valley pupil Connor said: "Our friend was pretty drunk and he kept walking off. JJ kept chasing him and bringing him back, but he went off again towards the station and I ran after him.

"He walked towards the edge of the platform and just kept walking. He hit his head and then it rolled onto the live rail.

"I shouted for my little brother and didn't really think, just jumped down onto the tracks. He was shaking like he was having a fit and when his head rolled off the rail I picked him up and told the others to jump down because he was a dead weight and I could not lift him up."

JJ said: "The paramedics took his shirt off and there were burn marks and the skin was peeling. He was bleeding out of his mouth."

The 15-year-old was taken to the Conquest Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He was released last week and his grateful relatives have been in touch with the boys to thank them for their bravery.

The brothers' mum Janine said: "If it was not for Connor he could be dead.

"My son was in bits '“ it frightened the life out of him. I was very angry at first but I am very proud now.

"The station should be manned '“ there is a lot going on around there.

It might not have stopped the accident happening but at least there would have been an adult there to help them."

Both brothers said they didn't think they were heroes.

"He cannot remember anything, but you have just got to help one of your friends. My friends would have done the same for me," said Connor.

"You don't think, you just do what you have to do," added JJ.
