Helping families tosurvive Christmas

Local charity Surviving Christmas has launched its annual appeal this week.

The charity has been helping needy families in Hastings and Rother to have a happier Christmas for more than 30 years.

Each year families struggling financially are referred and receive a hamper and gifts.

Together with Sussex Coast College and Arrow FM they have this week launched the 2015 Toy Appeal.

Donations of new and unwrapped toys, will be distributed in time for Christmas. Simply take a toy to a local drop-off point and you will be helping to put a smile on a child’s face.

Drop off points are situated at Sainsburys, Sedlescombe Road, St Leonards; Kid’s Stuff at Priory Meadow Shopping Centre, Hastings; Clambers Play and Party Centre, White Rock Gardens, Hastings; In Perspective, 45 St Leonards Road, Bexhill and The Crafty Norman at The Old Post Office, The Green Battle.

Ann Andrews, Chair of Trustees at Surviving Christmas, says: “The number of families referred has increased this year and we will deliver over a thousand children’s gifts in the run up to Christmas.

“The Toy Appeal will help us meet the need this year. Sainsburys, Sedlescombe Road, we are very pleased to be collecting in store on various dates in December. Look out for our team of volunteers who can help guide you with gift ideas”.

Sainsburys manager Lawrence Brown, said, “We are delighted to help this local charity with collection days and instore Toy Appeal promotion. In addition they will receive a £250 donation towards their hamper project from charity funds raised from carrier bag charges.”
