A STUDENT has beaten thousands of girls to reach the quarter-finals in a national beauty contest.
Lara Duke, 21, of Helensdene Walk, St Leonards, is one of 20 stunners hoping to get to the next stage of the Miss England 2011 competition but needs the public’s help.
She said: “I entered the contest as last year’s Hastings Old Town Carnival Queen Tamara Gates recommended it to me.”
Lara, who went to Helenswood, is in her second year of studying for a degree in psychology at Middlesex University in London.
She was Carnival Queen and Miss Hastings in 2009.
Lara said: “I love acting and hope to get higher up the ladder in that field.
“If I win it can give me a chance to talk up charities which I support, such as those protect animals. I am very passionate about stopping animal cruelty.”
The three girls out of the 20 who get the most votes then go through to the semi-finals.
A further six then battle it out at the finals to win the coveted title of Miss England.
