MEN’S BREAKFAST: The next is on Saturday November 12 at 9am. Upper Dicker Village Café and Shop. A talk, Face the Void, with Mike Sherry as he shares his mountaineering exploits and take the opportunity to buy yourself a delicious breakfast.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY: Remembrance Sunday November 13. Please meet at 10.40am at Hellingly Cemetery for the shared worship with the Scouts and other organisations. There will be no 10.45 service at Hellingly church on Remembrance Sunday.

NEW SCHOOL: Apparently it is still not too late to express your support for the new school at Hellingly to be a Church School. All support is taken into account in assessing the bid. Encourage as many people as possible to go to the web site and fill in the support form at www.stpeterstpaulhellingy.school. At the parish council meeting in September Councillor Bennett advised council that he would soon be in a position to report on the position re the new school development. The County Council were starting their budget setting process and a motion would be put before the next council meeting (October 12) to discuss grammar schools. In respect of the north Hellingly primary school the land would be secured and bids and offers would be received, the Regional Schools Commissioner would make the final decision. Some Parish Councillors had attended a presentation from one of the bidders and were concerned that they would not have the opportunity to attend others or to be a part of the decision making process. Councillor Bennett urged Council to send him their comments. Councillor Bennett also confirmed that the County Council were in the process of looking at the requirement for additional secondary school places.

MAKE ROOM ON THE BROOM: A bit of fun down at Bates Green Farm, Arlington awaits on Sunday, the Make Room on the Broom event is fully booked in the morning but in the afternoon from 2pm to 4pm the Autumn Adventure celebrates the turning season with an adventure in the autumn woods. Rummage through the woods as they turn from autumn to winter. Collect materials to make wise owls and nutshell candles to bring light through the dark days of winter. Enjoy pumpkin soup warmed on the fire for a mid-afternoon snack. £9 per child 6 years plus, £3 per adult, includes soup and bread and a drink for all. All the events take place at the beautiful Arlington Bluebell Wood at Bates Green Farm, Tye Hill Road. Booking is essential as there are usually just 15 spaces on each event. HALLOWEEN WEEKEND: Traditional entertainment at Michelham Priory with Punch and Judy, spooky drama sessions, crafts and all sorts of Halloween fun. CHRISTMAS FAIR: Michelham Christmas Gift and Craft Fair is over the weekend of November 12 and 13. There will be Festive fun, food and drink with stalls in the Elizabethan Great Barn, four marquees and more. Visit Santa in his Grotto (additional charge). Face painting, Crazee Hazee children’s entertainer, children’s Christmas crafts and much more. Something for all the family. Christmas specials being served in the cafe. Reduced entry.

CHEF DEMONSTRATION: Chef Demonstration and three-course meal at Michelham Priory. Michelham Priory’s new Michelin Star trained chef will be demonstrating a three-course meal which you will then be able to enjoy on Saturday November 19 at 7pm. An optional glass of wine especially chosen to complement the starter and main course may also be included as part of your evening. DICKER CABARET: Tickets available this week. The Dicker Players have been performing their ever popular annual Cabaret at different venues for over 40 years and are delighted to return to the Hailsham Pavilion for a second year. There are two performances on December 9 and 10, 7.45pm. This year so many great celebrities have died that they have created a Cabaret style show as a tribute to them, hence the Legends tag. Expect to see and hear material to celebrate the brilliance of Prince, Bowie, Ronnie Corbett, Victoria Wood, Caroline Aherne, Terry Wogan, Gene Wilder, to name but a few. This will be supplemented with material on the shady subject of Death plus other stuff that just makes us laugh - we know you will too. The evening contains sketches, comedy routines and songs but be warned, much of the material is of an adult nature which might cause offence. The show contains extremely strong language so is unsuitable for children. This is probably the funniest live show you’re ever likely to see (in Hailsham anyway).
