STUDENTS across 1066 Country have celebrated the launch of the fourth 1066 Schools’ Book Award.
Student readers from Filsham Valley School, Helenswood School, St Richard’s Catholic College, Bexhill High School, Claverham Community College and Robertsbridge Community College visited Helenswood School to meet with authors and hear excerpts.
Author Saci Lloyd, last year’s winning author who wrote The Carbon Diaries 2015, was special guest at Friday’s event.
Together with Kate O’Hearn, who is author in residence at Helenswood, she held a question and answer session and signed books.
Helenswood pupils opened the event and this was followed by a pupil from each of the participating schools reading an excerpt from one of the shortlisted books, such as Auslander by Paul Dowswell, Blart - The Boy Who Didn’t Want To Save The World by Dominic Barker, and Johnny Swanson by Eleanor Updale. The next stage of the award is in March when pupils vote for their favourite via video conference link between the schools.
