Young active volunteers were commended for their work at an awards ceremony.
Play Hastings, StreetGames, Active Hastings, In2Play and the Youth Council all came together at the event at the town hall on Monday (October 26) where Councillor Dawn Poole and the mayor, Bruce Dowling thanked the volunteers for the time they have given to help at community events and sessions over the past year.
Cllr Poole, the council’s lead member for leisure and communities, said: “We believe it’s very important to recognise the work the young volunteers do. Without their help and commitment it would be difficult to run the many successful events that we do. Their help and constant enthusiasm is invaluable.
“We have seen many of the young people grow in confidence while volunteering and some are currently taking courses under the guidance of our StreetGames team which will give them useful qualifications for the future.
“Playdays and the Doorstep Play Project young volunteers were also awarded. During the 19 years of this volunteer programme more than 500 young people have been recruited and trained with funding and support from Orbit housing.
“More than 60 young people received awards on the night and our thanks must go to Subway at Sussex Coast College for providing food for us all and gift vouchers and Blue Reef Aquarium and Hastings Adventure Golf who also generously donated vouchers and prizes.”
