A salon, which only opened up its first official branch in Ore in October, has been awarded the City Winner For Salons 2016 award for East Sussex.

Hannah Bannerman-Watson, 37, of Park View, started her salon business in a shed in her back garden before opening Well Gel beauty salon in Old London Road on October 29, 2016.

Hannah said: “I didn’t expect this at all, it’s an amazing feeling. One client, who has been with me from the start, nominated me for the award on a website called FanChoice. She was really impressed at how well I had been running the business and how well it was doing.”

Well Gel received 25 five-star reviews on the website, which was the highest in that section. She added: “I feel fantastic, over the moon.”

Hannah also offered advice for anyone looking to start a business. She said: “Treat customers as you wish to be treated. I’ve never had a website – my business has grown naturally through word of mouth and Facebook.”
