Hastings Rock will not be broadcasting in 2017, the organising committee has confirmed this week.

The radio station is normally on air for 28 days each May, delivering the very best in current and classic rock music to listeners in Hastings and surrounding areas on FM, and around the world on the internet.

But due to a number of “complicating factors”, it has not been possible to obtain a licence in time to broadcast this year.

The organisers of the popular station said they were left with an “extremely difficult” decision to make.

Nick Thomas, Hastings Rock station manager, said: “The station is run by a small team of dedicated volunteers, who share the passion of our loyal listeners, and it was an extremely difficult decision to make.

“Uncertainty over the future ownership of the Robert de Mortain pub – from where we regularly broadcast and always received great support from landlord Thierry and his family – plus changes to radio licence regulations were among the issues we faced.

“It is particularly saddening to cancel as the station has also given great support to St Michael’s Hospice, who remain a vital partner for us.”

However fans of Hastings Rock should not despair as the team are planning to come back in 2018 to mark what will be a milestone year for the radio station.

Mr Thomas said: “However, the committee and the station’s roster of talented DJs remain enthusiastic to make next year, our 25th anniversary, the best broadcast yet.

“We’re very sorry for any disappointment cancelling the broadcast may cause but we fully intend to bring the trademark Hastings Rock sound back to the airwaves next year.”
