Members of the Hastings Association of Twin Towns made their annual trip to the German town of Schwerte over the May bank holiday weekend.

They were accompanied by the Mayor of Hastings, Bruce Dowling and his wife who had received an official invitation from the Bürgermeister of Schwerte.

Reg Wood, Chairman of the Hastings and Schwerte friendship association, reported: “We had yet another wonderful weekend with our German friends.

“On the Saturday we were taken to Altena to visit the medieval castle in North Rhine Westphalia and had a splendid banquet.

“On the Sunday there was an official reception at the Town Hall hosted by the Bürgermeister.

The remaining time was spent with our respective families and friends. Some of those friendship’s go back over 30 years.”

Ken Sharples Chairman of Hastings Association of Twin Towns, said: “Twinning with Schwerte is as popular as ever.
