Hastings pub is food award finalist
Old Town pub The Crown has been named as one of the finalists in the 2017 Sussex Food and Drinks Awards following an intensive eight-month judging process.
Categories attracted a record of 13,000 public votes.
The Crown Hastings is celebrating their position as a Top 3 Finalist in the Sussex Food and Drink Awards in the Best Eating Experience category. The overall winner of the award will be announced on 1st February at the awards ceremony in Falmer.
Up against stiff competition from pubs, cafes and restaurants in the whole of Sussex, The Crown is very proud to be in with a chance of winning this prestigious competition.
The Crown were also pleased to announce their success as finalists in the annual national ‘Observer Food Monthly’ Awards in both the Best Place to Drink and Best Sunday Lunch categories. The magazine attributed this success to; “This friendly boozer keeps it local with ales, wines, spirits and cider from nearby producers.”
The team at The Crown continue to serve top quality food and drink, focusing on local ingredients and artisan producers such as Imbhams Farm Granary, Moon’s Green charcuterie and Three Legs Brewery.
They are open every day from 11am, serving food from noon.
Now in its eleventh year, the awards are all about supporting and boosting local farmers, food and drink producers and the outlets that use and sell this superb local fare.
Sussex food and drink heroes can now look forward to an exciting night of celebrations at ‘the Sussex Foodie event of the year’, the spectacular Sussex Food and Drink Awards Banquet on February 1 2017 at the Amex Stadium, hosted by awards patron Sally Gunnell OBE and BBC’s Danny Pike, where the winners will be revealed and receive their trophies.
Other award categories include Farmer’s market of the Year; Young Chef of the Year; Food Producer of the Year; Drink Producer of the Year; Butcher of the Year; Newcomer of the Year; Farmer of the Year and Street Food Vendor of the Year.
Tickets for the BAFTA-style awards ceremony on February 1, next year, are now on sale and include a spectacular seven-course Sussex produce banquet.
Sussex farmer and Nuffield scholar, William Goodwin, who is chairman of the judges, said: “The competition was really tough this year and the 30 Grand Finalists, 15 from West Sussex, 13 from East Sussex and two from Brighton, should feel immensely proud at making it through to this final stage in the competition.”
