Hastings Philharmonic Choir

FOLLOWING their fantastic concert of American and Brazilian Music in June, and fresh from participation in the second Composers’ Festival in Hastings, choir members are now starting rehearsals for a new season.

This includes a performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers in Christ Church St Leonards on November 16. This sublime work will challenge the choir but demonstrates the musical ambition of the members, and especially the encouragement and leadership of Marcio da Silva, the conductor, who has just completed such a successful first season with the choir.

The next event after this will be the Carol Concert on December 21, followed by Spring and Summer Concerts. The choir, consisting of 70 to 80 people, enjoys performing in St Mary in the Castle, but has the good fortune to perform in a number of churches in Hastings and St Leonards, and sometimes in the White Rock Theatre.

New choir members are made very welcome and the friendly atmosphere on rehearsal nights adds to the enjoyment, supplemented by refreshments, cake sales, and so on, and occasional social events.

Why not come to a rehearsal on a Wednesday evening, at 7.15pm (till 9.15pm) at The Tabernacle, Cambridge Road, Hastings? You will find some who are new to choral singing, but who benefit greatly from our many experienced singers. We all learn from Marcio who is himself a renowned singer and shares some of his secrets with us. All voices are welcome but men are always particularly sought after.
