Hastings Ore Women’s Institute

AT our last meeting on July 9 we enjoyed a talk from local historian Brian Lawes on the history of Ore.

Many of our members were born and brought up in the area, and Brian’s slides stirred many memories, as well as providing fascinating information for newcomers.

After, Brian’s wife and WI committee member Shirley Lawes had prepared us a quiz to test our knowledge – some of the younger, newer members did as well if not better than the more established residents.

On Saturday, July 6 many members had helped with the Summer Bazaar at All Saints Hall. Although the standard and range of goods on sale was high and varied, unfortunately we had chosen the hottest day of the year so far for our event.

Attendance, and takings, were a bit lower than at our previous Bazaar, we guessed that most people were either sitting quietly in their gardens at home or had gone to the beach.

Our WI now has two craft groups, one afternoon and one evening, a walking group and is just about to start recruiting for its second book group – the first one now has the maximum possible number of members.

For any enquiries about the group or our activities, please see our website, www.hastingsorewi.co.uk/index.aspx, or telephone Jean Hatter on 01424 439427.
