A busy few weeks. On November 11 we had our AGM, and it was great to see so many of our members turning out on a wet night. We now have more than 70 members, and are one of the largest WIs in the East Sussex Federation.
The evening started with a presentation from Lesley Brown from Dragonflies, our charity for this year.
We then heard from our treasurer about the healthy state of our finances, and from our secretary about the varied programme of activities undertaken during the year.
When it came to the committee, there were some changes. Our founder president, Jan Kelly, who has been ‘off-duty’ for several months due to ill health, is standing down, and gave us her final president’s address. Jan is remaining on the committee, but will be sorely missed in her leadership role. Two other long-serving committee members, Gill Smith and Jacky Scales, also stood down, and two newcomers, Edwina Fuller and Evie Knight were elected in their places. The rest of the committee members are Stephanie Gaunt, Jean Hatter, Shirley Lawes, Jan Kelly, Marion Smith and Jen Tunmore. Stephanie Gaunt became the new president.
Finally, the winners of the Make a Christmas Wreath competition were chosen. The People’s Choice winner was Shirley Lawes, and the main competition, judged by guest Julia Bovee was Jennifer Langley.
On Saturday, November 15 it was our Winter Bazaar, held this year at St Luke’s Church Hall, Silverhill. Members had been working to make things, bake cakes and collect all sorts of saleable goods, and it was excellent to see all our efforts rewarded. Everyone worked very hard on the day, making the sale was a great success, and we raised approximately £1,300, some of which will go to our chosen charities.
