Hastings has been named as one of the top coolest seaside towns in the UK.
As part of a special Coastal Chic feature a national newspaper’s weekly supplement, Hastings came third in the list.
It featured in the list as part of the Bricks and Mortar supplement last Friday (July 24) in The Times.
In the top 10 coolest seaside towns feature, Hove was number one, followed by Burton Bradstock, in West Dorset, at two and Hastings, third.
Whitstable and Margate, both in Kent, were fourth and fifth respectively, while Orford, in Suffolk, was sixth.
Bosherston, in South Pembrokeshire, Wales, came eighth in the list, North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland, was ninth and Brixham, in Devon, appeared 10th.
Councillor Peter Chowney, leader of Hastings Borough Council, said: “To be listed as third is a real boost for Hastings but we’re not surprised. We have a packed calendar of events throughout the year thanks to the local community and the council which is growing in reputation and attracts thousands of tourists who are able to stay in a variety of accommodation including new boutique hotels and quality self-catering facilities.
“St Leonards now has a creative and alternative ambience with new galleries, restaurants and even a new theatre. And the Jerwood Gallery, Stade Open Space, Pier, Grotbusted seafront, Sussex Coast College and Brighton University campus have all helped to improve the town’s image and prosperity.”
