Hastings is in the top 15 places in England to visit during half term, according to a leading holiday website.

Holidaylettings.co.uk surveyed the number of bookings made in October 2014 and Hastings turned out to be in the top 15 alongside Manchester, Scarborough and Deal to name a few.

The destinations had to have at least 40 bookings to count.

“The coastal town of Hastings has come a long way since William the Conqueror and his men set foot on its long beach,” the website said.

“In fact, on the cliffs you can see the remains of the first castle he built in England.

“Hastings also has a bustling promenade and active shoreline, which is home to the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe.

“Love art? The Jerwood Gallery houses key pieces of British art, many of which are making a public debut.”
