THE council is flushed with success after its toilets scooped a number of awards for cleanliness.

Hastings Borough Council has added 13 five star and two four star accolades to its list of lovely loos at this year’s Loo of the Year awards.

Cllr Jeremy Birch, leader of Hastings Borough Council, attended an award ceremony at the town hall celebrating the hard work of cleaning staff. He said: “Our loos are fantastic. They are clean, they are well looked after and they are welcoming.

“All this is really important not only to residents but to anyone visiting our town and our facilities. It’s the little things that stay with people and filthy facilities are very off putting.

“Not only did we win Beach Loo of the Year for our Stade toilets, which is a fantastic achievement, we also notched up many five and four star awards placing us joint fifth in the local authority premier league of 20 other councils.

“I am very grateful to our contractors, SHS, for all their hard work. These awards show we made the right choice.

“It was a pleasure to meet so many of the staff at the ceremony and only right that their hard work be recognised.”

Cleaning staff received their certificates from Cllr Birch and Mike Bone, managing director of the awards.
