Our Mid-Sussex League first team overcame appalling playing conditions to beat Haywards Heath 4-1 over there.
A double-booking by our hosts led to the match being played in the back snooker room of the United Services Club at the same time as frames were being played on one table. Totally unsatisfactory as regards noise and lighting and our team would have been justified in walking out, but it was a tricky judgment call for the captain.
A 4-1 win was perhaps some scant consolation for the fiasco: wins from John Sugden, Jerry Anstead and Paul Kelly, draws from Howard Tebbs (against the reigning County Champion) and Jim Wheeler.
Our seconds were just pipped by Horsham firsts in another Mid-Sussex League top division match, losing 2-3 at home in a dour encounter; nonetheless a creditable performance. Draws from Ollie Willson, Jerry Anstead, Ray Brooks and Paul Kelly, a loss by John Sugden.
