GENERALLY good results from the local club in the latest League matches.

Our first team in Mid-Sussex League Division 1 beat Worthing seconds 3-2. Despite the match win it is a little worrying that the firsts are not really nailing opponents this season, especially as Worthing turned up a player short - game points difference may well count at season’s end, and on paper we should have been looking at a whitewash here.

A comfortable win from Jerry Anstead, only draws from the powerhouse two of Francis Rayner and John Sugden, a bad blunder from Alfredo Luaces.

Our team in Kent League division 2 are however steamrollering the opposition and already look play-off contenders. Tunbridge Wells succumbed 4-2. It was numbers 5 & 6 Jim Wheeler and Daniel Lowe who delivered wins, leaving their betters - John Sugden, Ollie Willson, Bob Elliston and skipper Ray Brooks - to coast home with draws

Mid-Sussex League Division 2 saw our thirds draw 2½-2½ at East Grinstead firsts with the tail enders Derek Cosens and captain Robert Smart delivering wins; Jim Wheeler drew but Laurence Butt and Matthew Howell both succumbed.

Finally the fourths continued their winning ways in Mid-Sussex League Division 4 by beating Crowborough fourths 3½-1½ although they had to work hard for it. A fine win from Jeremy Hudson was Game of the Day, supporting wins came from Keith Hossack and Roy Richardson, veteran Eric Houghton made a rare outing to draw on top board, but Con Power (organiser of the big international chess tournament at Christmas) went down.
