Hastings and St Leonards Chess Club

THE club shrugged off its summer torpor briefly last weekend for the customary annual friendly match against Greater London, an oddly named club which one might think represented a wide area but which takes its name from once having been the works club for the Greater London Council and before then the London County Council.

The home team had expected a fairly easy run but were held, 4 points each in a tight match in which half the games were drawn. Steve Blewitt and Mason Woodhams were our winners, with draws from Bob Elliston, Ray Brooks, the talented junior Daniel Lowe, and from veteran Eric Houghton. Captain Paul Kelly, as well as Robert Smart, alas failed to trouble the scorers.
