Hastings and Rye MP Amber Rudd has welcomed British Gas’ decision to cut its energy prices.
As Secretary of State at the Department for the Energy and Climate Change (DECC) one of her stated priorities is to push companies to lower their bills.
Late last week British Gas announced it would be cutting household gas prices by five per cent for the second time in a year from August 27, cutting an average £35 off the average Dual Fuel bill.
Mrs Rudd said: “My top priority is to keep bills down for hardworking families and businesses across the country. British Gas has taken a step in the right direction to make sure bill payers are getting a fairer deal through lower bills and I urge other energy companies to follow their lead.
“We won’t hesitate to take further action where the market is not delivering a fair deal for bill payers – including doing more to support switching, ensure the swift roll-out of smart meters and increase competition in the energy market”.
