We had a very lively and entertaining meeting on February 17, led by Hélène White.
As well as enjoying some of Edith Piaf’s most popular songs, we learnt a great deal about her remarkable life. Though her career began humbly in the backstreets, and she never became ‘glamorous’ in the usual sense, this diminutive figure in black rose to international stardom.
Our next meeting, on March 3, will focus on ballet with Rudolf Nureyev, presented by Mireille Heaney.
Afterwards there will be the usual refreshments and informal chatting. Anyone is welcome and the venue is still Holy Redeemer church hall in Upper Church Road at 2.30pm.
