Our last meeting, on Tuesday, September 30, was a musical afternoon led by Lydie O’Brien.

We had been confident we could rely on Lydie for something very interesting and, sure enough, the room soon rang with songs by performers such as Jacques Brel, Yves Montand and Edith Piaf.

We were not allowed to just relax and listen, though, but had to identify famous titles through sketches and charades before the songs were played. There were some surprises. For example, when the English members heard Toute la pluie tombe sur moi, they immediately claimed it was Raindrops keep falling on my head but most of the French members thought it had originated with Sacha Distel as sung to us then.

Our fortnightly Tuesday meetings are always in the hall of Holy Redeemer Church, Upper Church Road, St Leonards at 2.30pm.
