OUR short AGM on October 11 was followed by an extremely interesting talk in French, Les Cinque Ports, when Hélène White told us about the history of this organisation.
She is an entertaining speaker and also amused us with her account of how nerve-racking it had been when she first started, as a non-local person, to explain local history to visitors.
We are very much looking forward to our next meeting on Tuesday, October 29 because we are having a cheese-tasting session.
Eric Chauvel of The French Delicatessen, a local tradesman who sells various types of French cheese at local markets, will come to give us a talk ‘avec dégustation’.
Apple juice will be available for those who do not want a glass of wine. There will also be some advice on which wines best complement particular cheese.
Anyone interested in French culture is welcome. As usual, the venue is Holy Redeemer Church hall in Upper Park Road at 2.30pm. There will be small charge of £2.50 for visitors, £2 for members, towards costs.
