Normally, one or perhaps even two guide dog users grace the quarterly fund-raisers at Little Common Community Centre.

But last Saturday’s function attracted no fewer than five four-legged friends.

Branch chairman Barbara had Toffee with her. Though a paw defect means that Toffee can never serve as the “eyes” of a visually-handicapped person, she performs a vital task as the winsome focal-point of many of the branch’s street collections and other events.

Puppy-walker Julia had Hudson with her and Emma had her “eyes” Clover.

Branch supporters packing the community centre for the event were delighted to learn that Ashford branch organisers Lorna and Stephen had journeyed all the way from Kent with Carla and Dilly to see how Bexhill does things and to lend their aid.

The coffee morning event raised £476 for the branch.

The branch has already announced its coffee morning programme for 2016.

Supporters were urged to put their Guide Dogs diaries and calendars to good use and make a note of March 5, May 21, August 13 and October 29.

The branch would like to who can spare some time, however little. They need street collectors, stall holders, event organisers, collection box co-ordinators and equipment helpers. Contact Barbara Grice on 01424 220699.
