Group to highlight debilitating disease

A charity is holding two events later this month to raise awareness of a debilitating disease.

Hastings and Area Osteoporosis Support Group is inviting people to come along to the Sussex Exchange, on Queensway in St Leonards and meet the National Osteoporosis Helpline Nurse on Monday, October 20, which is World Osteoporosis Day.

The session starts at 10am with tea and coffee and an osteoporosis update, followed by a question and answer session until noon. This event is free but booking is essential.

To book or for more information phone the group on 07856 677370 or email

On the same day the group has organised a study afternoon. This is solely for GPs and health professionals, and to date more than 90 delegates have registered.

More than three million people in the UK have osteoporosis and every year in the UK there are nearly 300,000 fragility fractures. This has an enormous impact on people and their families as well as the NHS.

Osteoporosis is a fragile bone disease that causes painful, debilitating and sometimes fatal fractures, particularly of the wrist, hip and spine. Bones are prone to break after a minor bump or fall.
