Green initiative cuts church lighting cost by 70%

BEXHILL'S 1,200 year-old parish church has just completed a major project to cut its carbon emissions.

In doing so it has reduced church costs considerably.

St Peter's in Old Town has become the first church in the area to replace all its internal lighting.

This will not only benefit the planet but will also reduce lighting costs by approximately 70%.

The church is trying to give careful thought to a green agenda, and recently a group from St Peter's won a national green award for organising activities emphasising the need for care of God's creation.

St Peter's is very grateful to the anonymous donor who contributed 500 towards the cost of the lighting initiative.

The contractor who has undertaken the work has extensive experience of similar projects in cathedrals and churches throughout the UK, and has demonstrated a sympathetic feeling for working in a religious building.

Opportunity has been taken during the change of ensuring that the light now falls more exactly where it is needed.

Some lights have been altered from pointing upwards at the ceiling. Not only was this inefficient, but over a period of time it darkened the ceiling.

Now the new lighting scheme will enhance the recent internal redecoration of this ancient building.
