Good news for primary school

ST Peter and St Paul Church of England Primary School has been recognised by Ofsted as one of the top 40 schools in the country for improvement.

Headteacher Richard White, brought in after the school was put into special measures, says the school continues to move towards its target of gaining Ofsted's top grade - "outstanding" - in all areas.

The school had a one-day visit from Ofsted following the inspection body's placing St Peter and St Paul in its top 40 most improved schools bracket.

Mr White says of the rating: "We are very proud of this fact and continue to work hard to move all aspects of the school development forward."

Writing in St Peter's parish magazine, he says the Year 6 SATS tests have been very encouraging.

Protracted building work has finally been finished. The school now has a much-improved entrance together with new carpets and heating in the junior department.

Mr White says: "As with all building work, the end never seemed to come and we had the usual snagging issues and over-runs but we are pleased with the final results and have now moved back into the offices.

"The building work was the result of some money from the Diocese and the hard work of the governors in raising 10% of the final costs."

The school is still fund-raising to meet its target.

It has also redeveloped its old pavilion to create a new parents' room. Plans for this term include a new breakfast club together with parents' groups.
