Hastings resident Jean Reed has received a Gold badge in recognition for her dedication to fund-raising at Hastings lifeboat station.
The Gold badge is the latest accolade that Jean has received for services to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), having previously received bronze and silver badges from the lifesaving charity.
Jean joined the Ladies Lifeboat Guild in 1976 and served on the committee when it was formed into a society. She went on to become chairman and vice chairman.
In 2001 Jean, along with fellow volunteer Joyce Mepham, was invited to a garden party at Buckingham palace and was presented to the Duke of Kent
Jean, who works in the lifeboat shop at Hastings lifeboat station and continues to be an active member of the committee said she was “very proud” to receive her Gold badge, presented at a ceremony at the Barbican centre.
