Girl thwarts kidnap attempt

A SCHOOLGIRL was grabbed by a man who tried to push her into a car in East Worthing on Friday.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the 13-year-old was approached by the man in Ladydell Road.

She kicked the man and he got into the car '“ a silver or green saloon '“ and drove off.

Detective Constable Robin Aspin said: "The girl was shaken but unharmed and did the correct thing by reporting the incident.

"We want to trace this man to question him on what he was doing. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or thinks they may know the man or the car, should contact detectives.

"Young people should always be cautious of talking to strangers and are encouraged to report any such incidents to the police."

The incident happened between 4.15pm and 4.45pm.

The man is described as white, of medium build, 5ft 10ins tall, aged about 50, with a rough complexion. He was unshaven, with a grey moustache and a pipe in his mouth, which he was not smoking.

The would-be abductor was wearing a three-quarter length black coat.
