Gift of love helps home’s royal celebrations

RESIDENTS of Saxonwood residential care home in Battle received an unexpected, but greatly appreciated, brand new flat screen television from a kind donation made earlier last month by friends of the care home, bothers Mick and Jim Wood.

The new addition to the home came just in time for the Jubilee, giving residents the chance to watch the historic event, while celebrating with tea and cakes.

The large television will be particularly used for special events happening this year, such as the Olympics and the European Cup.

Ken Clarke, resident of Saxonwood for two years, said: “Having the television is marvellous.

“It now sits prominently in the communal lounge so we can all come together to share our enjoyment in watching the exciting sporting events this summer.”

Home manager Vafa Hurst said: “We asked the residents how they would like to use the kind donation and so we purchased the television.

“We plan to hold regular film evenings and use the television to show old photographs of Battle, and bring residents together to watch key events.”

Mick Wood is pleased that the donation has been put to good use and said: “The donation came from my mum’s estate because my mum stayed at Saxonwood for a short time before she passed away and we appreciated how the staff tried to make her comfortable.”
