Generators expected to rack up £60,000 bill

THE total cost to the taxpayer of the generators, which have been powering the new developments on The Stade for months, is expected to be around £60,000.

A legal wrangle over who owned a small strip of land where an empty electricity substation was based meant that UK Power Networks refused to put in any equipment, and Hastings Borough Council was forced to pick up the bill for the temporary generators. The Stade Hall and Eat@The Stade cafe, which had been running on generators since they opened this spring, were finally connected to the mains supply last Friday (December 16).

A third generator powered the Jerwood Gallery for several weeks in November, and this has now also been connected to the mains supply.
