Funeral held for popular resident

The funeral was held last Fridayat Chichester Crematorium of Kevin Mears, an old Bognorian and local character.

He died aged 57 from pneumonia.

In the 1970s, Kevin worked for the organisation Release in London.

In his later years, having returned to Bognor, he was well known around the town for his kind words to those less fortunate than himself and for pointedly clearing rubbish carelessly dropped by others.

He also walked the dogs of those unable to do so or who were pressed for time.

It was in that role that he was featured in the Bognor Regis Observer last January for having fought to save a dog from two Staffordshire-type dogs.
