Four held after street violence

Detectives have been continuing their investigation into an incident at Sidley which left a man in hospital with serious head wounds.

The middle-aged victim was injured in the second of two related incidents last Thursday evening.

His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Detective Constable David Bristow said that at about 8.20pm there was an altercation in the Cooper Drive area involving several men.

"A second, related, incident happened some 20-30 minutes later in Buckholt Lane, resulting in a middle-aged man being taken to the Conquest Hospital with serious head injuries."

Three men and a woman were taken into police custody. Their investigation has been given the codename Operation Ancaster.

Police said yesterday that the victim of the assault had discharged himself from hospital overnight.

They said it appeared he had been hit with an unknown instrument but no weapon had been found.
